False Prophet Watch Warren's inauguration prayer could draw more ire (outside link) Yahoo News President-elect Barack Obama's choice of Rick Warren to deliver the inaugural invocation drew one kind of protest. Whether the evangelical pastor offers the prayer in the name of Jesus may draw another. At George W. Bush's 2001 swearing-in, the Revs. Franklin Graham and Kirbyjon Caldwell were criticized for invoking Christ. The distinctly Christian reference at a national civic event offended some, and even prompted a lawsuit. Read more...

Keynesian Economics Is Wrong: Bigger Gov't Is Not Stimulus Based on a theory known as Keynesianism, politicians are resuscitating the notion that more government spending can stimulate an economy. This mini-documentary produced by the Center for Freedom and Prosperity Foundation examines both theory and evidence and finds that allowing politicians to spend more money is not a recipe for better economic performance. By E.Ray Moore Jr. Th.M. “Let My Children Go” is a modern version of the repeated cry of the children of Israel as they prepared to leave for the Promised Land on the Exodus. It has become increasingly clear to the national Christian leadership that there is an educational and spiritual crisis of gargantuan proportions in public education. But what can be one about it? Can the churches leave public education behind as the children of Israel left the dominion of Egypt long ago? Read more...

The Great American Con: Bail-out or Money Laundering? The Campaign Finance Institute First it was Wall Street. Now it is Detroit. Wall Street and Detroit will be back for more and everyone else is asking for theirs. Yet, if it was not bad enough to hear about the parties, bonuses and private jets, wait till you read about what these companies were doing with their money for the last few years. For instance, the Ford Motor Company has spent $31,594,000 from 2005-2008 in Federal Lobbying Expenditures. Freddie Mac spent $35,704,048 for the same period. Ford donated $1,603,017 from 05-08 in Federal campaign contributions. Freddie Mac donated $1,672,244. Just this year alone Freddie Mac donated a 1/2 million dollars in Federal campaign contributions. When it comes to Federal campaign contributions Goldman Sacks gave away $10, 177,455 from 05-08. Now they want us, the taxpayers, to fund this? Sounds like money laundering or a shake down to me. The funny thing is that they are calling Blagojevich a crook. The only reason why they are upset with him is because he became to open about it to the public. Read more...

Have Females a right to vote in the Church in matters of Discipline? By Rev. Jesse Mercer (1769-1841) "To the law and to the testimony then let us go. And again he saith, 1 Tim. 2:11-14: 'Let the woman learn in silence with all subjection. But I suffer not a woman to teach, or usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence. For Adam was the first formed, then Eve. And Adam was not deceived; but the woman, being deceived, was in the transgression.' Read more...

Now, ye Elijahs, pray it down! To your knees, believers, to your knees. You can bring it down, and only you. ‘For this thing will I be enquired of by the house of Israel, to do it for them.’ ‘Prove me now herewith,’ saith the Lord of hosts, ‘and see if I will not open the windows of heaven, and give you such a blessing that you shall not have room to contain it.’ Will you lose the opportunity, Christians? Will you let men be lost for want of effort? Will you suffer this all-blessed time to roll away unimproved? If so, the Church of one thousand eight hundred and sixty is a craven Church, and is unworthy of its time; and he among you, men and brethren, that has not an earnest heart to-day, if he be a Christian, is a disgrace to his Christianity…Let us meet together as often as we can, and plead at the throne; and each man of you in private be mighty with your God, and in public be diligent in your efforts to bring your fellow-men to Christ.”

Why your next Pastor should be a Calvinist By Dr. Tom Nettles Southern Baptists inherited the most compelling aspects of all the Baptist Calvinists that preceded them. James P. Boyce summarized this well. He encouraged every preacher to get theological education in some way, even if it could not be at the Seminary in Greenville, South Carolina. If no other means were available, he advised, 'work at it yourself.' The fathers of the convention did this, Boyce claimed; 'They familiarized themselves with the Bible, and Gill and Andrew Fuller, and they made good and effective preachers. God is able to raise up others like them.'1 But this is the very difficulty that we face at this moment in Southern Baptist history. God indeed is raising up others like them, that is, like the fathers. Whether self-educated or seminary-educated, Boyce and all his contemporaries viewed a Bible theology that reflected a blend of Gill and Fuller as normal and expected. Churches should have no other kind of pastor. Today, however, some Southern Baptists are warning the churches against them. This is a mammoth historical irony that many find difficult to appreciate. Washington Times Op-ed—Teens Challenged to do Hard Things By J. Michael Smith What’s the first thing that comes to mind when you hear the word “teenager”? For many, it is not positive. Teenage rebellion has become commonplace, and our culture has responded by expecting less and less of teenagers. But is teenage rebellion inevitable, or are there new ways of thinking that could address the problem? Responsibility for teenage rebellion and underperformance must fall primarily at the feet of parents and other adults. This is because our current expectations for teenagers provide very little challenge. Read more...

Former Alabama Chief Justice Roy Moore and the Foundation for Moral Law welcomed the U.S. Supreme Court's historic decision today in District of Columbia v. Heller, holding that D.C.'s handgun ban violated the individual "right of the people to keep and bear arms" protected by the Second Amendment. As the Foundation urged the Court to do in its amicus curiae brief filed in this case, the Court not only came to the correct conclusion about the Second Amendment but it did so by consulting the words of the Constitution, its history, and the people's common understanding of the amendment when it was adopted in 1791. Dr. Ravi Zacharias refuses to pray in Jesus name Ashamed of Jesus at the National Day of Prayer The 2008 Honorary Chairman of the National Day of Prayer, Dr. Ravi Zacharias, is refusing to pray in the name of Jesus Christ in his prayer posted on the official NDP website. A receptionist with the National Day of Prayer in Colorado Springs stated that the Honorary Chairman's prayer does not include the name of Jesus so as not to offend the Jewish participants in the event, and that others are free to pray in Jesus name if they desire. Contrast that betrayal of Jesus Christ with the faithfulness of the first martyr, the Apostle Stephen, who died in a hail of stones for his fearless preaching of Christ crucified to the Jewish religious leaders of his day. A [not so] Southern Baptist Declaration on the Environment and Climate Change Read the complete text of the document causing all the controversy among Southern Baptists. Baptist Vision may get criticized for "perpetuating" the controversy, however, we believe the only thing which can set us free is the truth. Please remember, we did not create, publish or market this declaration and ministry. We are only responding to what someone else is doing. Also, we believe this is not a good direction for the SBC or America. Therefore, we must engage in this discussion. Our only wish is that Mr. Merritt would have chose to do it in-house at the convention and not in the public sector. Read the Declaration...

Transforming Culture: Christian Truth Confronts Post-Christian America By Albert Mohler Jr. Peggy Noonan is right. At some point, in some moment, all of us must admit that something remarkable has happened to American culture. Mrs Noonan, a former presidential speechwriter, recalls that this moment came for her during a high school graduation in the early 1970s. A young girl walked across the stage to received her diploma. The girl was obviously pregnant. Noonan recalls that her first impulse was admiration for the girl's grit and determination against social disapproval. "But," recognized Noonan, "society wasn't disapproving. It was applauding." As she reflected, "Applause is a right and generous response for a young girl with grit and heart. And yet, in the sound of that applause I heard a wall falling, a thousand-year wall, a wall of sanctions that said: We as a society do not approve of teenaged unwed motherhood because it is not good for the child, not good for the mother, not good for us."
