Working for the present; Building for the future

BVG to soon become Covenant Commission

© Baptist Vision

Baptist Vision of Georgia (BVG) recently made its supporters aware of the coming name change and transformation of BVG. This is not to be confused with a change in our vision, message, or objectives. We are entering a new phase in the life of this ministry that calls for greater responsibility, awareness, and tactics in carrying out our mission. Henceforth, the leadership of this ministry is intensifying efforts to raise standards and performance over the next few months.

BVG will, as soon as convenient, become Covenant Commission. Let us explain why.

Covenant Commission better expresses our vision, message, and objectives in the following ways:

1. This ministry is first commissioned by Covenant Baptist Church, which is under the authority of Jesus Christ, to be an evangelistic ministry in reforming the home, church, and civil government. The name Covenant Commission illustrates this authority and representation.

2. As other churches, organizations, and individuals continue to join with Covenant Baptist Church in pledging their lives, fortunes, and sacred honor in commissioning this ministry to reclaim the Lordship of Christ in our society, we are covenanting together, under God, for this task.

3. As an evangelistic ministry it is an unified effort among churches and Christians in carrying out the Great Commission to the neglected mission fields of the American home, church, and civil government. Our first task in the Matthew 28 Commission begins in Jerusalem. Then we are commissioned to reach Judea, Samaria, and unto the uttermost parts of the earth. This is best illustrated today if we think of it as local (Jerusalem), State (Judea), America (Samaria), and the rest of world (nations). However, we must reach all three institutions God ordained for society.

4. Covenant Commission represents our Biblical covenants in the Covenant of Grace and all the individual covenants that have been fulfilled in Christ under the New Covenant. As heirs of these promises in Christ, we are commissioned to reconcile the world to Him.

5. Covenant Commission represents our cultural covenant to be salt and light. Beginning with Adam, man had been given a cultural covenant (dominion mandate). Adam was given the responsibility to care and keep God's creation. We see this responsibility in the laws God gave to man and expressed in the New Testament. Paul wrote in Ephesians 5:9-11, that "the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness and righteousness and truth;) Proving what is acceptable unto the Lord. And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them."

6. Covenant Commission is an exclusive name that we will be able to use and define as ours. This gives us the ability to define the identity, message, and mission of this ministry.

7. It gives us exclusive name usage in our domain name on the internet. We have already secured covenantcommission.org; .net; .us; .info already.

8. In the issue of the Christian State, the 1st Amendment, or the "separation of Church and State," it removes the contradictions in our name, worldview, and organization. As we reach out to churches in taking the Crown Rights of Christ to civil government, it does not give the false appearance that we are seeking to set up one Christian denomination over another. When it comes to Christian government our message is orthodox, Protestant denominations being given religious freedom. However, any lobbying efforts under the name of Baptist Vision of Georgia would contradict our message.

These are just a few of the reasons for changing the name of Baptist Vision of Georgia to Covenant Commission. However, it is important to do this now as we enter this new phase in the life of this ministry. The coming days, weeks, and months will be setting a pace that will not afford the time or the ability to backtrack.

You will also be noticing a new look on our blog and web site along with many new features. These new components will only continue to grow by the grace of God. We are trusting that the Lord will continue to make a way in providing for and advancing this ministry for His glory.

"Praise ye the LORD. I will praise the LORD with my whole heart, in the assembly of the upright, and in the congregation. The works of the LORD are great, sought out of all them that have pleasure therein. His work is honourable and glorious: and his righteousness endureth for ever. He hath made his wonderful works to be remembered: the LORD is gracious and full of compassion. He hath given meat unto them that fear him: he will ever be mindful of his covenant. He hath shewed his people the power of his works, that he may give them the heritage of the heathen. The works of his hands are verity and judgment; all his commandments are sure. They stand fast for ever and ever, and are done in truth and uprightness. He sent redemption unto his people: he hath commanded his covenant for ever: holy and reverend is his name. The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: a good understanding have all they that do his commandments: his praise endureth for ever." -Psalm 111
