An Open Letter to Bruce Gourley

My Response to an Anabaptist Socialist

By James Brown Jr.

Dear Sir,

I read with disgust your misinformed blog post concerning the Plains, Georgia news story. How you can link two completely separate events is the worst sort of journalism and writing ability I have ever witnessed. Surfing your web sites I would think someone who claims credentials like you would know better.

The event I spoke at on July 4th, 2009 was a Tea Party event held in cities all across America. It included Americans from all walks of life both white and black. I personally know of black preachers, singers, and attendees who participated in various Tea Parties across the country both on July 4th and on other dates. Not only did it include whites and blacks but other races and ethnic groups as well. Represented, were various political parties and I am sure religious identities. They were public events for those who believed in principles of liberty and Constitutional government.

I was invited to speak on behalf of my worldview, which happens to be Christian and conservative, on the topic of States' Rights. Speakers were not censored but were free to speak from their various points of view. I would think liberals who "champion" First Amendment "expression" would appreciate this.

However, getting to your allegation, I am not a racist nor do I espouse racist ideology. I believe that all mankind is the specific creation of God and therefore should uphold and maintain the nobility of God's plan. Unlike the evolutionists who believe in attaining higher orders, I believe each race contains the design God intended. Of course, the curse has flawed mankind with depravity, but it is not the distinctiveness that is the curse.

You directly implied that I gave the "white folks" in Plains "a good dose of southern racism." Were you there? Did you hear my or anyone else's speech?

You stated the Tea Party was an anti-Obama rally, which could not be any further from the truth. I only mention this to make a point, because I would not care if it had been an anti-Obama rally. To be anti-Obama does not make one a racist, just as being anti-Kennedy does not make one anti-Irish. Your logic is absurd. The main idea behind the Tea Parties was smaller government and more freedom. Your link directly attached to your post disproves your anti-Obama accusation. The pictures show a pro-American, patriotic rally for constitutional principles of government. These rallies were held to promote policies in which to achieve liberty and restore Constitutional government as our Forefathers intended. It is my opinion, that Obama directly opposes those principles of Constitutional government, liberty, and conservatism. Therefore, had it been an anti-Obama rally, I would have had no problem with it.

I believe Obama to be a socialist and do not want his policies to be enacted. However, this rally was not an anti-Obama rally and in fairness to all those who attended you should report the facts as they are. These rallies were directed at unconstitutional provisions in our government.

Concerning the effigy in Plains of Obama or whomever it was suppose to represent, I did not even know about it until I read it in your blog and still only know what I read by you. It happened 5 months after I was there. How the two are connected is beyond me. Until they find out who and why we do not know the motivations. But who are you to make accusations about something you know nothing about? Who are you to slander folks you don't even know with falsehood?

To say the Tea Parties are sponsored by racists because some links show up on a racist forum is equally absurd. Who is to say you didn't put the links there? Any yahoo can post a link on any web site or forum. It doesn't mean it is sponsored by the originating groups, staff, or even members.

You even stated there were anti-Obama posters at the Plains, Georgia Tea Party but show no pictures from the event. Instead, you link to a site showing pictures from other rallies. One must remember these are unsupervised millions showing up at Tea Parties across America. There weren't any sign police or sign check point. If there had been, you liberals would be yelling we were jack-booted thugs for infringing upon "free expression." Sorry, can't have it both ways.

However, the pictures you linked to don't show any threatening signs. They show normal political signs you would see at a political rally. Most of the pictures were against Congress and the News Media. Why not dub the rallies as anti-Congress or anti-Media? My favorite was a picture of a copy of the Declaration of Independence. Someone should have locked that gentleman up!

I’ve seen far worse from the left. As a matter of fact, our rally was peaceful. No businesses were looted, no fires, no clashes with police, no one was smoking pot, no obscenity chants, and no one was sodomized. Yep, it would have been a pretty boring rally for the left.

Now let's deal with the League of the South (LS) and the Sons of Confederate Veterans (SCV).

The LS has taken a firm stand against racism and you can read it's public statement here. Although, liberals like yourself will never be satisfied, I am not a racist and if it is proven that any group I am associated with is, I will disassociate myself.

The SCV is the "oldest hereditary organization for male descendants of Confederate soldiers." It was founded in 1896 as "a historical, patriotic, and non-political organization." The organization includes both white and black Americans with ancestors who fought for the Confederacy. One of the most notable is H.K. Edgerton who is a much sought after speaker and historian.

Of course, the problem is your definition of racism, which is, anything that opposes your views when other people groups are involved. This allows you to attach racism to just about anything and where it doesn't totally work you just insert the term bigot or similar derogatory sounding terms. Your terminology doesn't really have any true meaning since they are just meant to scare off the populace from true debate. Its a popular tactic among those with nothing of significance to say.

Your blog post is so predicable it's as if it was written a thousand times before. All you must do is insert new names, but it is the same old song and dance. Y'all might want to get a new script one day.

We would really love to debate you on these important issues for America's future, but first start with researching the topics and writing the truth. You can start by posting a retraction that I am not a racist. You offered no sort of evidence for your allegations other than sheer fabrication. No sir, you simply spoke as a false witness against your neighbor. Last I checked, this was still a violation of the Commandments unless y'all have figured out a way around this one as well.

In Christ alone,

Rev. James Brown Jr.
