The Georgia Candidates for Governor Just Don't Get It...Except One Posted July 02th, 2009 © Baptist Vision [BVG Note: The views expressed are that of the author and BVG and do not necessarily express the views in part or in full of Ray McBerry, Georgia First, or the Ray McBerry for Governor Campaign. Although we know that we are in much and maybe complete agreement, we do not speak for the campaign as an authority for his views or how he would express them. For more information about Ray McBerry please check out his web site at www.georgiafirst.com. To find out more about Eric Johnson you can check out his web site at www.johnsonforgeorgians.com. We will be covering more issues soon.] I was just reading some information relating to Georgia politics and I came across an interview with State Senator Eric Johnson, one of the candidates in the Republican Primary for Governor. He was pushing his bill, HB 90, and had this to say about the bill: “Good for parents, good for students, good for teachers, good for taxpayers. Unlike Neal Boortz, I don’t beat up on government schools. They’re community schools. Some are good, and some aren’t. Some systems are good and some aren’t. The real issue is whether or not the parents ought to make the decision where their children are educated. You could be in the best school in public school with the teacher of the year and still decide you want to go next door to a private school instead of a 45 minute bus ride or you may want to faith based education or you may want a class size of 10 instead of 25. Whatever your reasons are, you ought to have that freedom to do it. … The community ought to be able to pool their resources and have a community system, but that doesn’t mean that a parent ought to send their child there just based on a GPS coordinate.” First, I would like someone to show me one good government school. However, I do like the fact that he did admit the socialist system by calling them government and even communist, I mean community schools instead of trying to skirt the issue by calling them public schools. I know it means the same thing but public has been twisted to somehow mean a school belonging to the people, instead of its rightful meaning of belonging to the government. Of course I hear the useless argument, "we the people are the government" but when you go to government school systems what to you expect. You have been shaped and molded into a different worldview. Our problem is we have a system that is controlled by the Feds or the State. How soon we forget that the 10th plank in the Communist Manifesto is “Free education for all children in public schools.” Of course this is done by spreading the wealth. It is the the 2nd plank of the Communist Manifesto, which is “a progressive or graduated income tax.” The first problem is that the Federal government was never delegated nor given any power concerning education according to the Constitution. They have usurped this power and should be told by the States to take a hike. Secondly, children are the heritage of the Lord entrusted to the parents not to the State. It is a fundamental, God-given Right of parents to direct the upbringing and education of their children without infringement by the State or the Federal government. Children are not the property of the State and parents should tell the State to take a hike. Now, there is no problem with parents receiving help in the education of the children. Many covenant with the church in the education of their children for many different reasons. Even then, it is not the church's responsibility, the church should only assist, and aid parents in their duty. I am also for higher education. We had great institutions in the past before the state seized control of them. With all the money floating around, there is no excuse for our education system not to be private. Children are not cattle to be herded off by the State, under the direction of the Federal government, to be brainwashed and molded into society. I agree with Johnson’s statement that parents ought to be in complete control of their children's education. However, it is easy to tell that Johnson does not have much a foundation concerning parental rights over the State or the Federal government. The problem is that his Bill will do the opposite. With the school voucher system always comes control. In order to have real choice they have to open up that choice so "Johnny" can also attend the Christian School. However, once the Christian School accepts the voucher program, they are entangled in the State and Federal web. According to SWGA Politics.com, it would "require that any participating private school comply with the antidiscrimination provisions of 42 U.S.C. Section 2000, regularly report to the parent and the department on the student’s academic progress, including the results of pre-academic assessments and post-academic assessments given to the student, in accordance with department guidelines, and employ or contract with teachers who hold a bachelor’s degree or higher degree or have at least three years of experience in education and annually provide to the parents the relevant credentials of the teachers who will be teaching their students." The problem with Johnson is that he wants our conservative vote and so he tries to speak to our issues but he does not understand what he is talking about. He and others like him might get a lot of votes because there is no one else to vote for or because people do not dig deeper. However, they really are selling us down the river because they are either ignorant of liberty or they are Neo-cons. My hope is that they are the former. As they say, ignorance is curable but there is no cure for stupidity. Education needs to be removed from the government, both federal and state, and restored to the people. The people taking control and rejecting any interference from government can only do this. Let them choose homeschooling or assistance from Christian or private schools. Several things will occur. Your taxes will go drastically go down if we can keep the politicians from using the money elsewhere. Private education will go down as more funding becomes available. The quality of education will go up. Homeschooled and privately (included Christian schools) educated kids test higher than government educated kids. In spite of all I have written, there is good news, there is a candidate in the primary that understands, knows, and is committed to liberty, the Constitution, and Christian principles. His name is Ray McBerry. He also supports the rights of parents, right of contract, and the right of association. If elected Governor of this great State he will continue to do what he has done for over a decade--fight for the Constitution and liberty. Let us not settle for the lesser of candidates again. Let us take Georgia back and restore Georgia as a "free and sovereign State" just as the Declaration of Independence affirmed us to be. On July 4th, I will be speaking for the McBerry Team at a Tea Party in Plains, Georgia. My speech is entitled, "States' Rights: The Guardian of Liberty." The event begins at 10:00 a.m. at the city park. For more information click here. It will be a fun day as we seek to restore what our Founding Fathers established in this great land. Join us as we pay tribute to America and pledge to restore liberty by pledging our lives, our fortunes, and our sacred honor.
